1. ‘if you could see the view from my eyes’
if you could see the view from my eyes
you would see the view from the hills
as they are beautiful like you
every time i look out across the world
i see you in my eyes
and closing my eyelids
you feel like you’re next to me
if you could see the view from my eyes
you are forever in my view
and therefore in my heart and mind
grateful for my sight to see the world
stunning views and the greenest lands
i can only compare to the beauty i see
when you stand before me
2. ‘through the gate and up the hill’
i can see our house from here
where our children grew up
and where together we grew old
from the first kiss to the last
our house stood strong
like our hearts and minds combined
until the day i have to let go of your hand
love will forever flow through me, for you
from the house to the garden
through the gate and up the hill
we walked until the end of the path
after the gate has closed
and we leave our memories behind
i just hope we trod the right path
for the love of our souls to follow
3. ‘My boots’
My boots
once walked
side by side
with you
Every step
a memory
every memory
forever loved
My boots
continue to walk
further afield
through
many fields
Whether I
or you
will walk
together again
is unknown
But I know
the steps
once walked
with you
will always be
with me.
4. ‘I long to be in the hills’
Where the wind wails
and the rain hales
The trees swaying
side to side
the leaves rustle
louder than thunder
With the rain falling
from the leaves
to the forest floor
there is no escape
from nature's weather
I long to be in the hills
through forests
over fences
and through to views
of outstanding beauty
Whether it rain
sunshine or snow
I long to walk
over stiles
for miles.
5. ‘Undone and left covered in mud’
My walking boots
could be considered
one of my greatest companions
Supporting me on my travels
over rugged rocks
and soft earth across the land
Stepping in the shit I walk through
not even batting an eyelid
we just carry on
My walking boots at the end of the day
are undone and left covered in mud
I bet if they could
they would probably cry out
‘leave me alone’
Yet always there when I need them
without any doubt or questions raised
the boots are donned
and we’re off again
companions through the countryside
until the very end.
6. ‘I leave a few words for you’
Every hill I walk
I leave a few words for you
in hope that you will find them
listen to them
then take them with you
wherever you may go
Every word I walked with hope
in that one day you will find them
treasure them for as long as I have
Eventually the wind
will blow my words away
not knowing where they go
So with my words gone from the hill
there is only one thing that there is to do
gather my thoughts (and my words)
and climb back up the hills
placing each word carefully
just like before
and as the words rest in waiting
people may come and go
not knowing
or understanding the words they read
but when you find them
listen to them
I know you’ll take them with you
wherever you may go.
7. ‘Closer to my muse’
I have walked many a mile (in my boots)
With every step is a thought for you
Over each stile and through every field
My heart is closer to my muse
That muse maybe you
or even the view
(which would be nothing new)
But each mile I walk
I am closer to you.
8. ‘Taking a moment’
Walking
Standing
Sitting
In the hills
Taking a moment
To listen to the stillness
The silence
For a moment
The moment
Could be a minute
Or last forever
Whichever it is
I walk
Stand
Sit
Amongst the hills
Looking out
At the vastness
Hoping
Dreaming
Knowing
I can offer
The world
Something
For my thoughts
9. ‘The hills were here before I found your heart’
The hills were here before I found your heart
I walked because the love of the views and the land
Without a thought of a heart other than my own
I ventured far and everywhere
Finding my thoughts and losing my worries
My heart has always been in the hills and forever will be
but then I met you, my heart was instantly shared
so with my heart on the hills and you always in my heart
I never give a second thought to walk amongst the hills
10. ‘The man in a hat on the hill’
The man in a hat on the hill
with a cane to walk
he spoke as he stood still
like the air and the sun
that surrounded us
We looked out at the view
he knew his thoughts
and his way to walk
with his two dogs
and his wife by his side
He lived on the land
that his very feet walked upon
in a cottage not far
from the beauty
where we stood
The man in a hat on the hill
had many stories to tell
with time for the day to spare
his day was spent with the crisp air
As we walked our separate ways
I thought one day we might just pass
one another again
along the same path
May be I could get hat and a cane
find a cottage on the land
to walk all day
and admire the views
sharing my thoughts and stories
with whoever I may see
The man in a hat on the hill
had the world at his feet
with so many more steps to walk.
11. ‘Get me the tailor’
Get me the tailor
I’m going to the ball
To win back your heart
I’ll dress to the nines
To get the chance to dance with you
Making your heart flutter
Just once more
If at the ball
I can’t find you at all
I’ll ride a horse
Through forests for miles
Meeting you at the stables
I’ll find the right words
To show how my heart
Feels for you everyday
Get me the tailor
I’m not going to be a failure
I’m going to the ball
To win back your heart.
